Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) all over Ghana are allocated 3% of the District Assembly Common Fund to enable them engage in various forms of economic activities in order to help alleviate poverty among PLWDs. The Hohoe Municipal Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) has over the years supported several PLWDs in the Hohoe Municipality in this regard.
At the 7th disbursement of items at Hohoe Municipality which took place on the 8th and 9th December 2022 respectively, chairman for the Disability Funds Management Committee Mr. Adzey Elolo welcomed all beneficiaries and appealed to the Government to increase the disability funds which is currently 3% of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), to 5% so that more PLWDs can benefit. He also appealed to individuals of the general public to assist in various ways to support as many disabled in the Municipality as possible.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Hohoe Municipal Assembly Hon. Noble Daniel Awumey assured Mr. Adzey Elolo that Government will consider the plea of the PLWDs once they put the little they are being given out of the Common Fund to good use. He encouraged the PLWDs to appreciate what they are being given and put the items to good use so as to empower them to be able to solve their personal and family problems hence encouraging self-reliance. He reminded the various beneficiaries that monitoring visits will be carried out to ascertain that the items are being put to good use.
